Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q9550 2.83GHz 1333MHz 12 MB LGA775 EM64T CPU BX80569Q9550

Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q9550 2.83GHz 1333MHz 12 MB LGA775 EM64T CPU, (What's this?) Great Processor, I've used it on other rigs and never have any problems. Recommended processor for those who dont wanna jump over to i7 Achitecture.
Awesome processor, VERY hot, (What's this?) I received this processor as a Christmas gift so I could squeeze some more life out of my my 775 mobo, and I must say, it was a great buy. It compliments my GTX 560 Ti nicely and runs modern games like butter. Unfortunately I was ill-prepared with ample cooling and it runs hot enough to the point where my computer just shuts off. I've already ordered some Arctic Silver 5 and a Coolermaster to help combat this problem. I wouldn't stick with the stock Intel fan it comes with, go for something higher quality. Otherwise, fantastic processor.
UM what can't you say about it!, (What's this?) For the older LGA775 socket, well its about the only thing I could of asked for, for the older unit it went in.
What I expected, (What's this?) What can I say. I definitely got what I wanted. Price was ~ ok, given the LGA775 compatibility.
Best processor for the money on the LGA 775 BY FAR !!!, (What's this?) First of all BIG PROPS to ANTonline who I got it through. Ordered it off amazon a week ago and after no notification of anything happening I emailed them this past monday. They told me it was back ordered and no telling when it would be in.
cool running, (What's this?) Got it to replace my Q6600. What a difference! Runs approx 10C cooler at idle and on any game using real temp log. Also with OCCT and all this with my old Q6600 stock fan as the base on the cooler that came with the Q9550 is much smaller and has less fins/cooling area from what I can see. Maybe the included cooler works just as good but I had this one and it works so good I don't need to use my Zalman cooler, nor make any chgs.
Fast enough, I really don't need to OC as I'm not into bragging rights. I'm more into OC'ing memory and video cards which are the gaming workhorses.

R.C.
No real reason to upgrade to a new platform..., (What's this?) The chip I received has the E0 Stepping.

This chip is a huge improvement over my e8400 that was overclocked to 3.6 ghz.
Worth every penny!, (What's this?) If you can afford a new mobo, new RAM, AND a high-end SandyBridge i7, this isn't for you.
If you, like me, want to update your 775 system to match most i5s and some i7s with a SINGLE purchase...look no further! I pushed my P4 3.0GHz to its limit(a stable 4.5GHz OC'd), and after 3 years, needed more under the hood. The Q9550 CPU, paired with my same 3 yr old Gigabyte mobo and EVEN OLDER 4GB DDR2 667Mhz RAM(leaving major room for performance boost) is a technical marvel!
PROS:
Installed in 25 minutes. Runs dozens of applications without blinking. Plays Blu-Rays flawlessly on my 40"HDTV in 1080P. The 1 hour 40 minutes I used to spend encoding dvd movies now takes 25 minutes. Plays games in 1080P with all effects enabled. What's not to like?
CONS:
I bought this chip months ago. The price has not dropped nearly as much as it should, with some newer i7s less expensive.

OTHER THOUGHTS:
After conservatively overclocking this chip to 3.9GHz, it still idles 28 degrees, and under 100% load maxes out at 55 degrees...thanks to my 3 yr old Zalman 9500 cpu fan.
Great Product, as described., (What's this?) Awesome processor. Even though it's about year old technology it still blows my Dual Athlon 2.3ghz out of the water. I used this on my Hackintosh with OS-X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard and it's working great! No issues.
Best CPU for 775's, (What's this?) I wanted to keep my Core2 duo when my mobo fried. So I needed to get a CPU that was LGA775.

PROS: Has very high benchmarks. Stays cool at idle temp. No downaide so far.

CONS: price is still higher then Id like.

Other thoughts: though the built in heatsink is ok, I went with a separate heatsink just to be safe. But if you arent doing anything major (OC) then the standard heatsink that came with the CPU is just fine.
